Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils are leading on the Cycling City project, working with Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils to promote cycling across the region.
Work to speed up cyclists' journey times was finished this week at the Three Lamps junction between Bath Road and Wells Road.
The improvements for cyclists include a reduction in journey time for cyclists using the bus lane, an advanced stop line for cyclists on Wells Road (outbound), and an outbound lane width increased to 4.2m to give cyclists more space.
Buses and bikes coming inbound on the Wells Road can now bypass the lights using a 'give way' lane. The traffic lights will be called on demand, and activated by traffic passing through the bus lane.
The average reduction in delay to buses and cyclists is around 15 seconds in the morning peak, 10 seconds in the afternoon peak and 5-10 seconds off peak.
